Layered Cheese Banitsa by Familia is a traditional Bulgarian frozen pastry made with thick, rustic-style filo layers and a rich cheese filling. Carefully layered by hand, this authentic banitsa delivers the classic homemade taste, crispy texture, and comforting aroma that Bulgarian families love.

Preparation Instructions

Preheat the oven to 180°C – 200°C.
Remove the banitsa from the freezer and take off the packaging.
Place the banitsa with the tray into the preheated oven.
Bake for 40–45 minutes until golden brown.
Do not cover with a cloth. Let it cool at room temperature.

Tip: After 10 minutes of baking, remove the banitsa, cut along the marked lines, and return it to the oven to finish baking evenly.

Not suitable for microwave ovens.

Ingredients

Dough (60%): Wheat flour, water, refined vegetable oils (sunflower, palm, rapeseed, cottonseed), corn starch, salt, humectant: glycerol; sugar, improver (wheat gluten, ascorbic acid, enzymes, wheat flour, wheat starch, corn starch), flavouring, flour treatment agent: L-cysteine; glaze.

Filling (40%): Curd cheese (45%), water, cow’s milk white cheese (10%) [pasteurised cow’s milk, salt, starter culture, calcium chloride, rennet], wheat semolina, starch, stabilisers: cellulose, E466; refined sunflower oil, salt, milk protein, cheese flavouring (0.2%).
